On June 1, 2007, The Joyce Theater celebrated its 25th Anniversary, marking 25 years of supporting dance artists and audiences. To honor this landmark achievement, the Board and staff created programs that thanked the dance makers and audiences that have helped to make the theater one of the most beloved stages in the world.
The Joyce Theater awarded 25 dance companies $25,000 each in commissioning grants to help fund the creation of new work. The dance community has rarely experienced such an infusion of resources for the sole purpose of development of new work.
In celebration of 25 Years of Dance at The Joyce Theater, all tickets to Sunday evening performances during the 2007-2008 season costed only $25. By making performances in the anniversary season accessible at this affordable price, Celebration Sundays pay tribute to The Joyce's 25 year commitment to enhancing the public interest in and appreciation of dance.
During the anniversary year, The Joyce celebrated not only in New York City but in cities across the United States, continuing to enhance its reputation nationally and deepen its friendships. Visits to Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Boston, among other cities where there are Joyce supporters and Board Members, included a local dance event followed by a reception hosted by one of our local supporters.
