2012 Spring Gala • Le Grand Continental • The A.W.A.R.D. Show!

Thank you for being with us for last night’s U.S. premiere of Sylvie Guillem in 6000 miles away and The Joyce’s 2012 Spring Gala! We were thrilled to have you with us—and your philanthropic support made all the difference to our success!
It was truly a memorable night, with very special moments onstage, from Ms. Guillem and all of the dancers, and offstage, from our Gala honorees Peter Boal and The Boeing Company.
Each year, the Spring Gala, The Joyce’s largest fundraiser, provides critical operating funds for our programs and presentations throughout New York City. This was our most successful event to date, and we send our sincere thanks to you for your leadership participation in it.
We look forward to welcoming you to another Joyce performance very soon.

This summer the River To River Festival and The Joyce Theater will present the U.S. premiere of Le Grand Continental by Montréal-based choreographer Sylvain Émard at the South Street Seaport. This exciting performance brings together 200+ participants of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds – dancers and non-dancers alike – to perform a contemporary re-imagining of a traditional festive line dance.
We look forward to bringing together a diverse and dynamic group of New Yorkers from all five boroughs to show off what makes our city so special and we need your help!! If you are a dancer – professional or amateur – or just want to be one, WE WANT YOU!
Rehearsals will be held two nights a week from April 25 – June 21, 2012.Performances are June 22 at 7PM, June 23 at 7PM and June 24 at 2PM. Participants must be available for ALL of these dates.
The A.W.A.R.D. Show! was created in 2005 by choreographer Neta Pulvermacher/The Neta Dance Company, Scott Kasen and producer Marisa König Beatty in response to a need for a lab-like space in which working dance artists can engage in an open dialogue with the audience about the work presented. It is dedicated to nurturing new work, discussion, exploration, creativity and to the free exchange of ideas, thoughts and opinions.
In 2009 The Joyce Theater Foundation took on the role of producing The A.W.A.R.D. Show!, and coordinated its national expansion into Chicago, Philadelphia, and Seattle, in partnership with dance presenters in those cities. Each series is 4 nights of dance performances, 12 choreographers compete and 1 in each city takes home a $10,000 award to be used toward the creation of new dance work through a process of audience participation and voting. In 2010–2011 The A.W.A.R.D. Show! expanded further to include two new cities, Los Angeles and San Francisco, for a total of six cities across the United States. The 2010–2011 presenting partners included: The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago, Dance Affiliates (Philadelphia), ODC Theater (San Francisco), On the Boards (Seattle) and REDCAT (Los Angeles).
