With The Joyce, getting closer to dance goes beyond getting closer to the stage. In fact, you may take advantage of a variety of educational programs.
- The Joyce partners with New York City metropolitan area K-12th grade schools to create its school programs, which reach over 2,000 students and teachers.
- The Family Matinee series makes dance accessible by inviting young people between the ages of 6-14 years old to the adult table.
- We also offer opportunities for life-long learning with Dance Talks, free pre-performance events with scholars, dance writers, artists, and other dance experts; Dance Chats, free post-performance discussions with the artists at The Joyce Theater; Joyce Pre-Shows, in which Joyce teaching artists introduce evening programs with lively and insightful discussions; and other learning opportunities as part of our adult education programs.
In addition, The Joyce partners with arts institutions, education institutes, and community and social service organizations throughout the year to bring dance to diverse audiences. Collaborators have included The New School, Bed-Sty Restoration Corporation, and The Hudson Guild. The Theater has had a strong commitment to community engagement and education since its founding in 1982.
