Naomi Goldberg Haas: Dancing for the young and the young at heart

by rjohnson at 6:04 pm

On Saturday, May 21, Naomi Goldberg Haas/Dances For A Variable Population will perform a special Family Matinee Event at Joyce SoHo. The company is known for creating dynamic theatrical dance with diverse dancers, ranging from children, to persons with disabilities, to seniors. In a recent performance at The High Line , the company performed with older adults from Hudson Guild, a multi-service community center serving Chelsea residents. Seeking to erase some of dance’s traditional boundaries, the piece deliberately mixed women of all ages and body types, exploring how seemingly disparate groups can learn from each another through the nature of expressive movement.

Take a look:

In its May performance at Joyce SoHo, Naomi Goldberg Haas/Dances For A Variable Population will dance to Michael Nyman’s brass music and the hard core folk music of the Warsaw Village Band. Audience members are invited to join the dancers on stage to explore the nature of movement and expression.
