by rjohnson at 4:53 pm

Join us for “Making It,” a behind the scenes social media blitz leading up to the premiere of All is Not Lost, the rhythmically-propelled collaboration between Pilobolus and Ok Go.

Pilobolus opens its Joyce season on Monday, July 11 with a program that includes a live collaboration with the company and rock band OK Go that will lend insight into the company’s creative process. Over the next two weeks, we will take this idea of how work is made and run with it as we share behind-the scenes videos, articles, and photos that explore how Pilobolus works.

Follow us on the Joyce blog, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.
Surprises await you!

Ready? Set? Ok Go!

by rjohnson at 10:36 am

Pilobolus’ 40th anniversary season includes a rhythmically-propelled work created in collaboration with OK Go. The band rose to fame when its extraordinary treadmill-hopping music video for Here It Goes Again went viral and subsequently won the 2007 Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video and the 2006 YouTube awards for Most Creative Video.

Ok Go went on to create other wildly popular music videos, including the video and live performance co-production the band created in collaboration with Pilobolus that we know is going to be a hit and the Rube Goldberg-inspired music video for This Too Shall Pass drew over 25 million views on YouTube and is the one that’s inspired this blog post.

Rube Goldberg machines are over-engineered machines that perform a simple task in a complex way; Inefficiency at it’s greatest and most creative! Take a look.

Purchase your tickets to Pilobolus (at The Joyce July 11 though August 6) here. Premium seating is available for the July 25 and 27 performances featuring OK Go dancing with Pilobolus. Limited availability.

A small invited audience watched a run-through of the newest works in the company’s repertoire, including On Distant Shores, performed to the music of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Aaron Jay Kernis (watch a brief excerpt of it here) and Celestial Tides, an ensemble work set to the music of JS Bach.
