Brazil’s Cisne Negro Return to The Joyce

Brush up on your Portuguese or give in to the fact that dance is a universal language as you watch this video footage of Brazil’s Cisne Negro performing Frutos de Terra by Israeli choreographer Itzik Galili.

The company returns to The Joyce for the time first since 2005 with an eclectic program that includes Flock, an exotic take on Stravinsky’s Firebird; Dany Bittencourt’s ABACADA, and a special opening night appearance by American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Marcelo Gomes.

40 Years of ODC/Dance

ODC/Dance celebrates “40 Years of smart, exuberant, fearless dance that matters.” The company’s 40th anniversary season culminates with a stop at The Joyce August 9-13, when audiences will be treated to the New York premieres of Brenda Wey’s Waving Not Drowning (A Guide to Elegance) and KT Nelson’s Stomp A Waltz.

All Is Not Lost Video Released!

The video of “All Is Not Lost,” created in collaboration by Pilobolus, YouTube sensation OK Go, and choreographer Trish Sie, is released TODAY on NYTimes.com (and can be seen live on the Joyce stage in Program 2!). Take a look!

ODC/Dance offers a Guide to Elegance

Celebrating the company’s 40th anniversary, ODC/Dance returns to The Joyce with a magnificent program that includes the New York premiere of Artistic Director and Founder Brenda Way’s Waving Not Drowning (A Guide to Elegance). The work is a wry treatment of culture, fashion, manners and feminine perspectives set to a commissioned score by Pamela Z.

In this clip, Way and music collaborator Pamela Z discuss the inspiration for Waving Not Drowning (A Guide to Elegance) and show excerpts of the work in progress.
