This season, MacArthur Award-winning choreographer Kyle Abraham takes the stage with his first solo in nearly a decade, and presents a newly commissioned work by Andrea Miller, tailor-made for his powerful company, A.I.M. Contemporary dance maker Brian Brooks is back with works made in residencies at The Joyce and Chicago’s Harris Theater, and Lar Lubovitch Dance Company celebrates its 50th anniversary. Making Joyce debuts, MADBOOTS and Sean Dorsey Dance offer distinct works illuminating LGBTQ perspectives. For the balletomanes, The Sarasota Ballet brings highlights from its stunning repertory of ballet classics, and Tulsa Ballet makes a long-awaited return, too.
Highlights from abroad include the return of Israel’s coolly seductive Batsheva - The Young Ensemble and Switzerland’s dazzling Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève. South Africa’s Dada Masilo is back with a searing take on the classic Giselle, and Britain's Wayne McGregor offers a new work inspired by the sequence of his own genome.
Making it's return, The Joyce's Ballet Festival returns with Joshua Beamish/MOVETHECOMPANY, hailing from Vancouver; BalletX, from Philadelphia; Barak Ballet, from Los Angeles, and the Ashley Bouder Project, based here in New York.
This season will also feature Joyce audience favorites like Parsons Dance, RIOULT Dance NY, Limón Dance Company, Ballet Tech Kids Dance, Stephen Petronio Company, Ballet Hispánico, MOMIX, and more. And, for the first time, we are offering a Pay What You Decide option on three select performance dates, which makes it easy to try something new.
