“A tap dancer of unquestionable radiance” (The New York Times), Ayodele Casel joins six-time GRAMMY Award winner Arturo O’Farrill to create a collaborative world premiere. Rooted in Afro-Latin jazz culture, both artists share a common musical language that flows freely from modal jazz to stride piano to danzón to salsa and rhumba. Joined by a team of incredible musicians and tap dancers, Casel and O’Farrill explore genre-bending music and dance filled with unbridled joy.

The Joyce’s presentation of Ayodele Casel + Arturo O’Farrill is a HARKNESS FIRST Joyce Theater debut, generously supported by The Harkness Foundation for Dance. Underwriting support provided by Robert Musiker. The world premieres of Scalular and Somos Sur were commissioned and created, in part, with the support of The Joyce’s Artist Residency Center, made possible by lead funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Howard Gilman Foundation, LuEsther T. Mertz Charitable Trust, and Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Additional commissioning support was generously provided by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.
Approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes with no intermission. There is no late seating for the first 11 minutes of the performance. Late seating will be at the discretion of house management and latecomers are not guaranteed they will be seated in their purchased seats.
