Twyla Tharp

Tue Feb 13 - Sun Feb 25

With boundary-breaking creative vision, revolutionary choreographer Twyla Tharp continues to expand her artistic range with two world premieres at The Joyce Theater. Composer Simeon ten Holt’s signature minimalist style intermingles with Vivaldi’s Baroque scores in The Ballet Master,  a new work characterized by technical precision and joyful ease. In Brel, an homage to the Belgian vocalist Jacques Brel, Tharp's command of wit and musicality shine in this new solo work. Her company, Twyla Tharp Dance, also offers a revival of Ocean’s Motion (1975), featuring music by rock and roll pioneer Chuck Berry. The star-studded cast includes Gibney Company's Miriam Gittens and Jake Tribus, L.A. Dance Project's Daisy Jacobson, American Ballet Theatre's Cassandra Trenary, New York City Ballet's Daniel Ulbricht, and longtime collaborators Skye Mattox, John Selya, and Reed Tankersley, with guest performances by Herman Cornejo. Unpredictable and dynamic, Tharp’s creations solidify her place as one of the century’s most innovative choreographers.
