Chip Crawford

Albert “Chip” Crawford Jr., also known as Chip Ojiisan Crawford and Chocolate Chip, is a pianist, composer, arranger, and educator born December 3, 1952, in Raleigh.

A former student of Berklee College of Music, Crawford has performed and recorded with legendary artists including The Four Tops, Billy Eckstine, James Jamerson, Donald Byrd, and Isaac Hayes.

He holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Music Education from North Carolina Central University and has taught at institutions including Duke University and the University of North Carolina.

From 1983 to 2010, he toured and performed with vocalist Eve Cornelious as part of The Chip Crawford Trio. Since 2010, he has worked closely with Gregory Porter, contributing as a pianist, arranger, and recording artist to Porter’s Grammy Award–winning career.
