Joe González
Artist/Co-Associate Artistic Director, Complexions
Joe González is an Afro-Latino dancer, choreographer, educator, and arts leader from Boston, Massachusetts. He began his training through Boston Ballet’s Citydance program and continued at the Roxbury Center for the Performing Arts and then highschool at Boston Arts Academy, where he received the Dance Award and a YoungArts Merit Award from the National Foundation for Advancement of the Arts. He furthered his training at the Boston Conservatory, American Dance Festival, Bates Dance Festival, and Springboard Danse Montréal before earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Boston Conservatory in 2011.
As a performer, González has toured nationally and internationally with companies including Anna Myer and Dancers, Deborah Abel Dance Company, Prometheus Dance, DMB|#DBdanceproject, Putty Dance Project, Dance IQUAIL, Zoé Dance, Danza Orgánica, WaheedWorks, and David Dorfman Dance. He spent eight seasons as a Performing Artist with PHILADANCO! (The Philadelphia Dance Company) and later served as Artistic Director of its youth ensemble, D/3.
González is currently Co-Founder, Co-Executive Artistic Director, and Resident Choreographer of Jo-Mé Dance Theatre and serves as co-Associate Artistic Director with Complexions Contemporary Ballet. His choreographic work has been commissioned by Bryn Mawr College, Rowan University, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Boston Arts Academy, Philadelphia Dance Theatre, and Complexions Contemporary Ballet, among others.
A former faculty member at Temple University and Georgian Court University, González continues to perform, choreograph, teach, and create opportunities for emerging and established artists through Jo-Mé Dance Theatre while maintaining his performance career.
