R. Richard Ablon
Honoree
R. Richard Ablon is a distinguished business leader and devoted champion of the arts whose longstanding commitment has played an important role in The Joyce’s growth over the last 25 years. He spent an accomplished career at Ogden Corporation, serving as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman from 1990 to 1999. Under his leadership, Ogden became a global force across entertainment, aviation, and energy, marked by expansive growth and the development of far-reaching international networks.
In 2001, Richard brought that same entrepreneurial spirit to The Joyce, founding The Joyce Theater Travel Program—an initiative that has since become a cornerstone of the foundation’s patron engagement. Under his leadership, the program has visited 22 countries across four continents, spanning 90 curated journeys and welcoming more than 500 unique travelers, many of whom have returned time and again. A passionate participant himself, Richard has personally led 27 of these trips, reflecting his deep personal commitment to the program’s mission of cultural discovery.
In addition to leading the Travel Program, Richard has served on the Board of Trustees since 2001. Throughout his tenure, he has dedicated his time to several board committees, including the Committee on Trustees, the Audit Committee, and previously chaired the Marketing Committee, helping to shape the organization’s strategic vision and outreach.
Beyond his professional and philanthropic achievements, Richard is a dedicated runner and adventurous traveler, often found exploring the far corners of the world on his own. He treasures time spent with his family in New York City and on Martha’s Vineyard.
