Ayodele Casel

THE REMIX
Wed May 28 - Sun Jun 8

This spring, Ayodele Casel, "A force of wit and wonder" (The New York Times), returns to The Joyce with THE REMIX—a world premiere celebration of tap's rich past and vibrant present. Directed and co-created by long-time collaborator Torya Beard, this electrifying program revisits and filters highlights from Casel's two-decade repertoire through the sounds and spirit of 1990s Hip-Hop and R&B. At the heart of the program is the 20th Anniversary of Audrey, Casel's tribute to Dave Brubeck, Honi Coles, and Cholly Atkins, danced in its original context.
Enlivened by the innovation and community of the 90s tap renaissance, THE REMIX brings together a powerhouse ensemble of dancers and musicians—including works by Naomi Funaki & Caleb Teicher, Quynn Johnson, and Ryan Johnson—with special appearances by Funny Girl stars Izaiah Montaque Harris and John Manzari. Surprise guests will be revealed throughout the run.

The Joyce’s presentation of Ayodele Casel is a HARKNESS FIRST Encore Joyce Theater return engagement, generously supported by The Harkness Foundation for Dance.
