Tap City

Tue May 19 - Sun May 24

For 25 years, the American Tap Dance Foundation (ATDF) has been a cornerstone of the art form, honoring its past while shaping its future. This season, founder Tony Waag’s Tap City, the New York City Tap Festival, celebrates tap across generations, styles, and artistic visions.

The program features classic Copasetic repertory, including the Coles Stroll and Chair Dance, alongside My Mind Is on Mingus, Brenda Bufalino’s iconic solo passed to Michelle Dorrance. New works include Anthony Morigerato’s Endless, a world premiere that imagines tap dance as a fully integrated theatrical space, and excerpts from Soles of Duende’s The Kitchen, a rhythm-driven work-in-progress rooted in ritual, joy, and the intimacy of shared meals.

Performed by an extraordinary lineup of tap masters and emerging artists—including Michelle Dorrance, Jason Samuels Smith, Max Pollak, and Caleb Teicher—and directed by Tony Waag, the program reveals the full spectrum of tap dance, accompanied by live music and rare archival footage from ATDF.
