AMANDA CASTRO is a Puerto Rican–American, Bessie Award–winning multidisciplinary artist rooted in rhythm. She recently served as Associate Choreographer for Gypsy on Broadway and was most recently seen in Jelly’s Last Jam by Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards and Edgar Godineaux. A graduate of California Institute of the Arts, she trained under Glen Eddy (Nederlands Dans Theater) and André Tyson (Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater).
A former principal dancer with Urban Bush Women, Castro has since appeared in major musical theater productions including Singin’ in the Rain (as Kathy Selden), 42nd Street (Jared Grimes’ ensemble), and West Side Story as Anita at the Glimmerglass Festival and Lyric Opera of Chicago. She is a co-founding artist of Soles of Duende and has collaborated with Justin Peck, Julio Monge, Caleb Teicher, Michael Heitz, Francesca Zambello, and others.
