Joyce Theater

Gemma Bond had her first taste of choreography at the young age of 13 and later returned to the craft when she joined American Ballet Theatre, in 2008.  In her Joyce debut, produced by INTERMEZZO DANCE, she presents two evenings of dance featuring her new and reconstructed works: Then and Again, The Giving, and Impressions. The three works use the formal aesthetics of ballet to examine human existence and the singular experience of daily connection. Bond's choreography is a careful study in behaviors - stripped of the traditional ballet scenery, mime, and adornment, the movements traverse a visceral landscape, from the mundane to the extraordinary. Through this exploration of pure form, and through Bond's own valued collaborations with artists, musicians, and designers, she seeks for the work to impart an essential, emotional truth to her audience.
