Getting Closer to Dance: A Homecoming

Leadership, Advocacy, and Technology in Dance and Movement-based Practices

January 12-14, 2023 | New York City

Register and start the New Year in New York City with a new symposium designed for dance and movement-based professionals co-hosted by The Joyce Theater and New York University/Steinhardt in collaboration with dance and technology innovator Norah Zuniga-Shaw.

The Joyce Theater and New York University | Steinhardt and Tisch, join Marymount Manhattan College, Princeton | Lewis Center for the Arts, and Livable Futures in their most dynamic convening to date, with a new symposium designed for dance and movement-based professionals. Elevating and activating crucial conversations around 21st century currencies and tactics for sharing power and access in education such as:

  • performance post-2020: lessons, losses, and discoveries

  • curriculum as curation (i.e. guest speakers, artists, repertoire, and faculty)

  • challenging and redefining mentorship, and increasing student agency

  • advancing equity and collaboration through transformative leadership

  • creative and critical engagement with technology

  • weaving technology, leadership, and advocacy in service of better futures

Dialogue by day and dance by night. Register before the rate changes on December 1.

Dance workshops, receptions, networking, and more are part of the intimate consortium of key leaders from around the country willing to have honest discussions. Attendance is by application and space is limited. Students and K-12 practitioners are welcome to apply.

DANCE PERFORMANCES

The symposium package includes tickets to experience three American dance companies: B. MOORE DANCELES BALLET AFRIK, and WAHEEDWORKS all appear as part of The Joyce’s celebrated American Dance Platform curated by acclaimed choreographer Ronald K. Brown

COVID PROTOCOLS

The Joyce Theater has lifted vaccination requirements for staff, audience members, and performers, effective immediately. Masks will continue to be required at all times for visitors inside the theater. Please visit our Health & Safety Protocols page for more information.
