October 19—24 The Joyce in Chelsea
Lucinda Childs, hailed as a master of minimalism and one of America’s greatest modern choreographers, returns with her evening-length American Masterpiece, DANCE, a 1979 collaboration between three seminal artists. Described by The Guardian as “close to stage heaven,” DANCE features original music by Philip Glass and film décor by Sol LeWitt. This enduring work layers repetitious and geometric patterns as nine dancers perform in synchronicity with Lewitt’s ethereal projections of the company’s original dancers. The thrilling choreography cascades through time and space, elevated by the intricacy of Glass’s commissioned score. After 40 years, this work still captivates.
